Hai Wan Ju (海碗居) is a century old famous Beijing Zha Jian Mian restaurant and still living up to their standard.
We experience sitting on the traditional long bench for our meal and this is exactly how the people are sitting in the olden days.
We order the famous Zha Jiang Mian, stir-fried cabbage, water cook lamp rib and the Beijing traditional snack Rolling Donkey (驴打滚).
The waitress brought all the Zha Jiang Mian ingredients in front of us and add all the ingredient into the noodles except the soybean paste sauce. You can add it accordingly to your own preference.
The handmade noodles are slightly thicker, I added in all the sauce and mix with the rest of the ingredient which consists of the cucumber, bean sprouts, pickles, peas and vegetable. The soybean paste is slightly salty and I can taste the different layer of flavour in my mouth. This is really good.
The stir-fried cabbage is highly recommended as well. This might look something simple to the eyes but it’s super tasty. The combination of the chilli, vinegar and soy sauce make it really delicious. And it’s not spicy at all for us.
The lamp rib is cooked to a right texture, dip it into the savoury sauce and everything is perfect.
The Beijing traditional snack Rolling Donkey (驴打滚) is super soft and tender. It has a rich glutinous rice aftertaste and the red bean paste is not too sweet at all. perfect combination.
